I was getting ready to come up with a new recipe for homemade lip balm and a question popped into my head:
Can I make homemade lip balm just with coconut oil? The answer is YES, of course! All you really have to do is melt the coconut oil down, pour it into a container, then toss it into the refrigerator to let it harden. The problem is coconut oil alone does not taste very good and melts at 76 degrees. This is why most lip balm recipes with coconut oil use a wax base and flavoring.
A carrier oil butter such as Shea butter, cocoa butter, or mango butter might be a better choice to make a single or a two-ingredient lip balm instead of coconut oil. Their melt points are much higher so you may be able to skip the wax base. Also, cocoa butter and mango butter unrefined may retain some natural flavors.
