Baked Apples Filled With Carmel

I love to make this easy and delicious dessert. Not only is the end result quite tasty but it makes the whole house smell wonderful. One of the best things about it is it only takes about 10 minutes or so to do the preparation and then the crock pot does the rest!! For my crockpot and family size I use 4 apples, you can vary the recipe to accommodate your family and slow cooker needs.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cored apples (I prefer granny smith)
  • 8 – 12 individually wrapped caramels (I almost always use 12 and have been known to use 16 if I have big apples)
  • 4 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 20 small red hot candies
  • 4 tablespoons of margarine
  • cinnamon to sprinkle on top (about 1 teaspoon or so)
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup apple juice or cider

Directions:

First core your apples and cut off the top 1/2 inch or so of the apples.

Place your apples in the crockpot and more your juice or cider over the top.

Next comes the filling!! In each apple place in this order the brown sugar, the margarine, the red hots, and then the caramels.

Last sprinkle it with your ground cinnamon.

Let it slow cook on low for about 5 hours or so.

You can serve it just like it is, or you can serve it with ice cream or whipped cream. When you take out your apples be sure and have a spoon or spatula underneath each one so you don’t loose all the good caramel filling!!

Side note: My cousin varies my recipe a bit, she doubles the brown sugar and only puts 2 or 3 red hots in the apples. I don’t think she sprinkles cinnamon on the top either. Either way it is good, I just prefer a little extra of the cinnamon flavor than she does.
